Service Contracts
A range of Service Agreements marketed by Baker Perkins provides preventative service and maintenance for installed equipment, enabling machine performance to consistently meet agreed targets. Service Agreements are normally tailored to meet customer requirements and range from regular unit machine inspections to responsibility for complete process lines.
The basis of these contracts is regular inspection and servicing
by a Baker Perkins engineer who understands the process as well as
the machinery. The engineer identifies
opportunities for improvement and root causes of poor performance,
as well as ensuring continuity of production.
Service agreements include a preventative maintenance regime for
the equipment that avoids unplanned downtime and waste. It also
ensures that product quality attributes such as piece weight or
product size are maintained within tolerance.
The extra dimension of process improvement is also included. By monitoring a number of machines over an extended period the service engineers and the Baker Perkins design teams are able to identify and implement improvements to the equipment and operating procedures that further improve reliability and reduce running costs. A recent example is the launch of an improved ram and knife for bread dough dividers that reduce oil consumption and dough waste.
Another advantage is that in-house maintenance staff are released to work on other areas of the plant as well as ensuring that specialist skills needed for certain pieces of equipment are always available.
Service Agreements bring benefits to both single plant and large organizations where multi-site experience can be the basis for developing best working practice across the group.
This service is widely used within the UK plant baking industry, and there is the potential for expansion into other food industry sectors and geographical centres served by Baker Perkins.

Baker Perkins has been providing a comprehensive range of aftermarket services to its customers for over 100 years. During this time the company’s name and ownership have changed but our commitment to serving our customers has not. Previously the company was known as APV Baker and before that Baker Perkins and Tweedy. Equipment sold under all these names is still fully supported.
