Intervan introduce deposited lollipops

Depositing technology from Baker Perkins has enabled leading Spanish confectionery maker Intervan to develop two new, innovative product ranges.

Space Chupi are being made on a depositing line that enabled Intervan to de-commission its existing die-forming plant. Delisuit Crèmes both with sugar and sugar free - an assortment of two-colour striped candies in five flavours and colours - are made on a second recent Baker Perkins system.

Switching to depositing for lollipop manufacture has enabled Intervan to boost output, and take advantage of benefits in terms of higher quality and cost compared with the conventional die forming process. Depositing brings greater flexibility in production and product formulation, and a smoother 'mouth feel' with quicker flavour release.

The nature of the depositing process, and the use of aluminium moulds, create complete control throughout the process, leading to extremely high shape and dimensional accuracy, with minimal scrap rates and high wrapping efficiency.

The Intervan plant includes an automatic stick placer.

The hard candy system supplied by Baker Perkins enables Intervan to access the rapidly growing demand for sugar free confectionery, as a healthy alternative to conventional candy.

Deposited sugar free candies can be produced with the same wide variety of colours and flavours, such as milk and crème, as conventional confectionery. The added-value options of stripes, layers and liquid centres are all available.

This distinct style of confectionery involves blending and cooking a sugar free material, or polyol, as a sugar replacement.

Both the lollipop and sugar free hard candy ranges were proven during process trials on production scale equipment in the Baker Perkins Innovation Centre at Peterborough. This is a secure environment in which customers from throughout the world develop and test new products.

Intervan, based near Madrid, is a major force in the Spanish confectionery industry, and also exports to more than 30 countries in five continents. The company is part of the SOS group, one of Spain's leading food organisations.
