Baker Perkins at Snackex 09
Date: 05 February 2009
Healthy products and flexible production lines
Healthy new products, an expandable and adaptable production
solution, and a new extruder will all be highlighted by Baker
Perkins on stand 720 at the Snackex 09 exhibition in Berlin (June 7
– 9).
The new products will include a development of the co-extruded
snack that focuses on the crucial issue of a healthy diet. The
option of replacing traditional savoury fillings with real fruit
brings positive nutrition into the snack arena, and the
co-extrusion process can encapsulate a filling of 100% real fruit
or a fruit paste blend in a crispy
wholegrain shell - these pieces are available as pillows, tubes
or bars.
A second new concept is the co-extruded wafer – a thin ‘credit
card’ type product – which also features a
wholegrainshell with a fruit filling. As well as being a snack
in its own right the thin, flat nature of the product enables it to
be used as a carrier opening up new marketing opportunities
including dips and countlines.
The main ingredients (wholegrain and fruit) are inherently healthy
and levels of fat salt and sugar are low so this new generation of
snacks is ideal for the fast growing healthy of ‘better for you’
snacks category.
For manufacturers wanting to build versatility into their
production lines the Baker Perkins Snack Master line concept allows
additional units to be incorporated into a line to build
capability. These include special dies, crimpers, co-extrusion
equipment, cookers and driers and can be added over time to form
versatile plants suitable for a wide range of high-specification
products. The Snack Master concept can be applied to build
flexibility into new lines or add capability into existing
ones.
Key to the Snack Master concept is the new
SBX Master twin-screw cooker extruder, a solid barrel unit
offering process flexibility through modular design, high
free-volume geometry and high torque capacity.
