New product ideas and processing equuipment
Snack and breakfast cereal producers from leading companies around the world visited Baker Perkins at Peterborough, UK, to view the latest end product ideas and processing equipment.
A two-day International Showcase attracted entrepreneurs, product development managers and engineers from established manufacturers in the USA and Western Europe, plus developing markets in Eastern Europe, Mexico, Brazil, Korea and India.
For both snack and ready-to-eat cereal manufacture, Baker Perkins uses process expertise developed over many years to combine a portfolio of unit machines into lines capable of making a wide variety of different snack and cereal products. These lines can be extended and adapted at a later date to extend the product range further, particularly into added-value or novel products.
Showcase visitors saw a range of equipment being built for installation world-wide, including the new SBX Master extruder and co-extrusion machinery for snacks and cereals, plus cereal toasting, cooking, flaking and coating units. There was also a live demonstration of co-extrusion in the Innovation Centre.
There was particular interest in syrup coating, a technique that adds value and consumer appeal to cereal products . Baker Perkins has extensive experience in this technology through its leading position in the confectionery cooking and depositing sector.
The ability of the new SBX Master extruder to produce new co-extruded snacks to appeal to health conscious consumers also attracted attention.
In place of the conventional savoury fillings, these are typically filled with real fruit in bar, filled pilow or imaginative 'credit card' shapes.
Baker Perkins has built its reputation as a supplier of versatile, high-performance cereal and snack equipment on a tradition of engineering excellence, plus process expertise and the ability to develop new products in collaboration with customers in the Innovation Centre at Peterborough.
