UK Baker Warburtons expands with Baker Perkins equipment
Date: 04 June 2007
Expanding plant baker Warburtons has ordered mixing and forming equipment from Baker Perkins for the next phase of growth at Tuscany Park bakery near Wakefield in Yorkshire.
Tuscany Park already houses a high-output bread line and a roll line, and represented a £60M state-of-the-art investment when it opened in 2005
This new stage of development involves an additional high-output bread plant.
Warburtons specified two parallel Baker Perkins mixing and forming systems for the initial bread plant. They have now repeated the order for Baker Perkins Tweedy mixers, Accurist2 dividers, conical moulders, first provers and Multitex4 moulders, plus an integrated control system.
Expansion at Wakefield is part of Warburtons plan to improve supply and logistics to key market areas across the UK.
The company, founded in 1876, is now Britain’s largest family run bakery company, producing over two million baked products daily at 11 bakeries. A recent report by AC Nielsen named Warburton’s as the UK’s second biggest grocery brand.
Baker Perkins has recently completed delivery of another mixing and forming system for a second production line at the Warburton’s bakery at Enfield in North London.
This facility opened with one line in 2003.
Production experience, and strong aftermarket service, persuaded Warburtons to place further orders with Baker Perkins for equipment developed with a focus on gentle dough handling. Mixing, dividing and final moulding equipment has been upgraded to offer bakers improved product quality and process control, whilst retaining all the reliability and low cost of ownership benefits of the original machines.
Gentle dough handling is a clear path to superior bread quality and value, enabling plant bakers to combine the highest standards with economic production.
