Allied Bakeries choose preventative maintenance

Machine performance to meet agreed targets

An innovative approach to equipment service and maintenance, developed by Baker Perkins, has been chosen by Allied Bakeries to cover more than 50 key units in five plants.

The new range of Baker Perkins Service Agreement provides preventative maintenance enabling machine performance to meet agreed targets.  The service covers Baker Perkins customers throughout the bakery, biscuit, confectionery, snack and cereal sectors.

The contract with Allied Bakeries covers dividing and moulding machinery at five bakeries over a three-year period.

Baker Perkins Customer Services Manager Kevin Wright explains, "This approach turns maintenance to keep a plant into production into an opportunity for improvement.

"Customers have the option to achieve more than just effective preventative maintenance that identifies and cures potential problems before they can cause expensive down-time.  They have the option to benefit from Baker Perkins' extensive experience as an equipment supplier to audit the process as well as the plant, and achieve real performance benefits".

Peter Wallin, Allied Bakeries Engineering Manager adds, "A key advantage is knowing exactly the cost of running a batch of machines at approved performance levels."

Baker Perkins believes that, in today's intensely competitive environment, food companies are receptive to ideas with the potential to improve plant performance and contain costs, and move on from the traditional 'repair as necessary' maintenance regime.

A choice of Service Agreement has been developed, ranging from unit machine inspections to responsibility for complete process lines.
